You do not have to despite what some companies/businesses say, spend lots for SEO optimisation. If you have a decent website that is opimised to its maximum potential and good content, you can outrank others - for FREE!
Search Engines will pick on you, if your website has poor accessibility scoring due to poor colour-matching, so you need to ensure you get this right.
Not sofar as relating to personal hygience, but ensuring your website code is "on-point" will help with website ranking. Remove any unsed dependancies and clear up any code that is not used.
